Accessibility Statement

Conformance target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, motor, auditory, and cognitive impairments.

MerxTax is partially conformantwith WCAG 2.1 AA: the service meets the standard across the pages assessed, with the minor exceptions noted under “Known limitations” below.

How and when we assessed this

This statement was prepared on 29 May 2026 following an accessibility audit of MerxTax carried out on the same date.

The assessment combined automated and manual testing:

• Automated testing with pa11y against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
• Manual checks: keyboard-only navigation, visible focus indicators, form-label association, heading structure and landmarks, image alternatives, colour-contrast and colour-independence, and content reflow at 200% zoom and 320px width.

Pages assessed included the home page, pricing, sign-in and sign-up, the privacy and terms pages, and the authenticated dashboard, businesses, submissions (QUARTUS), and profile pages. All assessed pages returned no automated WCAG 2.1 AA errors and reflowed without loss of content.

Features added to MerxTax after 29 May 2026 (including VAT, Property, and Adjustable Summary filing, and the Reliefs, Reconcile and Estimates tools) have not been separately assessed. We plan to re-test as these mature.

What we have done

Accessibility measures across MerxTax include:

• Keyboard-operable navigation and controls, with a visible focus indicator and a “skip to main content” link.
• Text and interface colours that meet AA contrast ratios; status information is conveyed by text and shape as well as colour.
• Form fields with associated labels, and clear, programmatically linked error messages.
• Semantic headings and landmark regions, a page language of English, and meaningful alternative text for images.
• Layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling at 200% zoom and at 320px screen width.

Known limitations

We are not aware of any outstanding limitations beyond the following, which we are keeping an eye on rather than treating as resolved:

• Keyboard focus order follows a consistent, predictable sequence (sidebar navigation, then the content area; left-hand content, then right-hand controls on pages with side-by-side layout) rather than strict top-to-bottom screen position. We consider this a reasonable reading order, not a barrier, but we are keeping it under review.

This statement

Prepared on 29 May 2026 by Merx Digital Solutions Ltd, following the assessment described above. It will be reviewed and updated as the service changes and as further accessibility testing is carried out.

Last reviewed and retested: 5 October 2026. This pass checked and corrected colour contrast (text and form-control borders), added missing autocomplete attributes and icon-button names, extended the “skip to main content” link to every page, and used automated keyboard-and-layout testing (Playwright) against a 1.4.12 text-spacing override and full keyboard tab order on the sign-in, dashboard, income & expenses, compliance, receipts, tax returns, and profile pages — no clipped content or genuine focus-order fault was found.
